Description
For my final project, I wanted to photograph instances of governmental corruption and abuse in an abstract manner. I accomplished this by dressing my model in a suit and gas mask and having them perform a variety of situations which I could photograph. The suit represented a governmental official while the gas mask represented the corruption of the official. Both the suit and the gas mask also help to conceal the identity of the subject, allowing for them to represent the government as a whole, not just one person in particular. An acute color coordination of the tie indicates that the official is from the American government. In each scene, the subject is performing a task that can be commonly found throughout an average American city, using an ATM, pumping gas, and even vandalism. However, each is being done by the man in the suit and gas mask, adding a level of satire and abstract social commentary on the gap between the government and the common citizens.
